Background

Why do so many new real estate agents earn so little, feel so frustrated, and end up having to quit?

  • As many as 70% of new real estate agents quit during their first year…and almost 90% within five years!
  • According to the 2022 Member Profile of the National Association of Realtors, half of realtors in their first two years have an annual gross income of just $8,800, and pay median business expenses of $6,250...so they're earning almost nothing!
  • Many websites and social media accounts are devoted to grim humor about agent overwhelm, burnout, and quiet desperation, due to frustrations with clients, other agents, and the overall industry.

I think that’s awful. Not just for these agents and their dreams, but for all the people who were counting on them: their families, their clients, and their team leaders and brokers.

It just doesn’t have to be that way. Or at least not for you.

What will you do differently, from all those other real estate agents who fail?

About Dr. Earl

Earl at Apple II, 1981

I’m Dr. Earl Williams, and I’ve been studying psychology since I was 13 years old.

After science fair successes at the regional and state level, I went on to study the mind, brain, and human behavior, earning psychology degrees from Harvard University (BA), the University of London (MSc), and UCLA (Ph.D.). In recent years, I also earned my Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

I’ve always been fascinated with leadership, teaching, and coaching. As a civilian Navy scientist and project manager, I’ve been recognized with the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award, as well as my department's Award for Distinguished Achievement in Leadership.

I’m an Eagle Scout, a backpacker and mountaineer, an Ultimate Frisbee player and team captain, and a FIRST Lego League robotics coach and tournament head referee. Both UCLA and the American Psychological Association Division 2 have recognized me with their Distinguished Teaching Award.

So why real estate?

If you’re like me, you’re deeply motivated to achieve success by helping others. And if you’re my kind of real estate agent, that means helping people achieve one of their toughest and most heartfelt dreams: buying or selling their home.

My motivation is similar: I want to help you achieve your dreams of success as a real estate agent, which will also help the many home buyers and sellers who you serve. The opportunity to help you to help others is what draws me to real estate, as a coach rather than as an agent.

Earl HeadShot2 Hedge

When my wife and I bought our current home, we had an outstanding experience with our Mentor real estate agent: teaching us, protecting us, encouraging us, negotiating for us, troubleshooting for us, calming us, and guiding us to a thrilling conclusion. To this day, we still remain grateful to him for the experience and all his help.

He learned and confidently helped us to achieve all four of our main objectives:

  • an in-town move with acceptable commute times
  • a more open floor plan and bedroom-bathroom setup for our disabled adult daughter
  • a location in the excellent adjoining school district for her two younger sisters
  • a successful sale of our existing home at a good price

Every home buyer and seller should be so lucky as to have the kind of amazing Mentor realtor we had...and that includes your clients.

So in coaching you as a psychologist, engineer, teacher, and leader, I'll help you with a key missing piece of the realtor success puzzle: how to deeply understand and serve the psychology of your clients.

Most everybody agrees that “Real estate is a people business” and “Real estate is all about relationships." So it stands to reason that realtors should include this critical area in their professional development...yet most don't. You can be different!

I’m here to coach you to be a Mentor to each prospect, lead, and client, to best serve them and to build your success. You will become more confident, both at connecting with leads and then converting them into trusting clients:

  • dramatically increase your income, to gain the personal freedom you seek for yourself and your family
  • build your value, to protect against real estate industry disruptions and economic downturns
  • attract great clients (and avoid turning them off!), not poor ones, to increase your daily job satisfaction
  • lower your stress level, to avoid burnout
  • build a strong foundation for your future, in which prospects seek you out based on referrals, reviews, and repeat business

The sobering truth is that only a small percentage of real estate agents make it. Those who do succeed eventually figure out key perspectives and skills from five of my fields of study and experience: psychology, neuroscience, leadership, engineering, and business.

But instead of you learning these lessons slowly and painfully, one at a time and through hard experience, I want you to grow and gain their benefits quickly. So I invite you to click below to join our community of Mentor Real Estate Agents!

Another major interest of mine is personal development: the study and practice of self-improvement to become our best selves. We all want to live fulfilled and authentic lives, in integrity with our values and aspirations.

There are many great teachers of personal development, and I'm a particular fan of Brendon Burchard. If you are too, I'd love to hear from you! His work on personal development is summarized in one of his several books, High Performance Habits, available on Amazon etc or you can get the audiobook and his entire High Performance System for just $10.99 (not an affiliate link, I get no commission, I just think his approach and content are great).

I also enjoy spending time with my wonderful wife of 30+ years, my three adult daughters and grandson, my parents, my hiking friends, and my cats & dog, as well as walking, high-altitude backpacking, supporting STEM education (Science, Technology, Education, and Math), and playing classical piano.

Have a wonderful and grateful day!
